Juvenile detention

The Juvenile Detention Center located in San Bernardino houses minors charged with various criminal offenses or sentenced to time in detention. Many young people awaiting trial can be placed back in their homes if the officiating judge gives consent. After trial, these juveniles may be released, placed on probation, committed to the Juvenile Detention Center for up to twelve months, or certified as adults.

While in detention, numerous program offerings, including an education program provided by certified school instructors, are offered to the youth. Many participating children who are placed on probation or released return to their respective schools without loss of credit because they have continued their classes while in detention. In addition, a volunteer program provides recreation, parties, craft classes, and religious services for those who wish to attend. All activities are designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of the juveniles.
