Police Volunteers (VIPs)

The Ceres Police Volunteer Program offers a unique opportunity for citizens to volunteer their time and give a valuable service to the community.  To qualify as a volunteer you must pass a criminal history and background check.  You must be a U.S. citizen or qualify to legally work in the U.S.

The volunteers meet at the police department once a month.  They assist the police department in activities like DUI checkpoints, the annual Street Faire Celebration, The Halloween Festival,  Christmas Tree Lane Grand Opening and high school sporting events.  They assist in traffic control and crime scene security.  The volunteers also assist in other community events as assigned.

Ceres Police Volunteers wear recognisable uniforms, perform unarmed patrol services and enforce parking violations.  The volunteers are authorized to issue parking citations and ride along with police officers, assisting in minor reports and vehicle tows.  The volunteers receive training in first aid and CPR along with other training needed to perform the above services.  Some volunteers chose to assist by working in the records bureau or other office services.

The City of Ceres Pays for all uniform and equipment used by the volunteers, but they receive no monetary compensation for their services.  These men and women are a valuable asset to the police department.

If you have the desire and time to give to your community and you want to learn more about the program you can contact Sergeant Jose Berber at 209-538-5719.
