To obtain a business license you must first obtain a seller's permit from the State Board of Equalization if you are a retail establishment. Second you will need a certificate of occupancy from the Planning Department in City Hall West. Then you will come back to Licensing to apply for the business license. All business licenses expire on December 31. Licenses are sent through the U.S. Mail and will take approximately two weeks after appoval. Business License fees vary and is based on your gross income from the time you start to the end of the year and the kind of business your are. There are 32 different schedules. The minimum cost ranges from $75 and up. You must apply for a business license within 30 days of starting your business. Penalties may apply by failing to do so.
