Bees are common in the Hayward area. Animal Services receives many calls each year regarding bee problems. Staff does not send officers to remove hives, but does provide referrals to local Apiarist.
If you have a bee problem on your property, you will need to determine if the swarming bees have made a hive. During certain times of the year bees will swarm in an effort to find a new hive site. Generally, a swarm will leave within a few hours. If they remain longer than a day they have made a hive. Bees generally make hives inside crevices of trees, buildings, in large pipes and between walls.
If the bees are on your property you can call a private beekeeper or exterminator who can assist you for a fee. If the hive is on City-owned property, contact the Landscape Maintenance Division.
