The purpose of an inspection is to verify compliance with the approved plans and other local, state and federal laws which are enforced by the code enforcement agency. No building or structure may be used or occupied, nor any change to the existing occupancy classification of a building or structure, until the Building Official has issued a Certificate of Occupancy.
At specific stages of construction, the permit applicant or contact is responsible for scheduling with the Building Division the required inspections.
Please do not schedule inspections using Access Hayward; follow the procedures outlined in How to Schedule Inspections.
It is also the responsibility of the person doing the permitted work to provide access to and a means for inspection of the work. The area to be inspected must be accessible and exposed for inspection purposes. A reinspection fee of $86.00 may be assessed for each inspection or reinspection when the work for which the inspection is called is not complete or when corrections are not made.
