After the tentative map for a project is approved, the Final Map and Improvement Plans must be reviewed and approved by the Engineering and Transportation Division before the developer can proceed with construction.
A checklist identifying what needs to be included in the final map submittal is available in the Engineering and Transportation Division. The needed documents are then submitted through the Planning Division.
Steps include:
- After tentative map approval, the developer's Engineer/Surveyor is to prepare the Final Maps, Improvement Plans and other required data in compliance with the conditions of approval;
- The completed map, plans and other required data are submitted to the Planning Division and then forwarded to the Public Works Engineering and Transportation Division for initial review;
- Staff reviews the submittal for completeness and will notify the applicant in writing that either the review process has started or that additional materials are required. The plan review process will not be started until a complete submittal has been received;
- Public Works/Engineering and Transportation refer the Final Map and Improvement Plans to other City Departments, outside agencies and utility companies involved for review and comment, allowing a two-week response time;
- Upon completion of the review process, the City Surveyor and City Engineer sign the Final Map. The City Engineer approves the Improvement Plans;
- Planning Division prepares a City Council Agenda Report recommending approval of the Final Map.
