A Plumbing Permit is to ensure compliance with the California Plumbing Code (CPC). It is required for the installation, alteration, repair, replacement, or remodel of any plumbing system. Plastic piping material is prohibited in all drain, waste and vent systems.
- If construction requires a Building Permit, get the Building Permit before submitting a Plumbing Permit Application.
- For work not needing a Building Permit (limited to installation and alteration of any plumbing system), submit completed Plumbing Permit Application and required fees.
- Plumbing Permits are issued at the counter on the day of application (15-30 minutes).
- Call for a plumbing inspection (510-583-4148) when the work is completed and ready for inspection. (The job card on the reverse side of the Plumbing Permit lists required inspections at each stage of construction).
