Before a single-family dwelling addition may be built, a Building Permit and other related permits (Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing must be issued. Also, Planning Division and Fire Department requirements must be met prior to applying for a Building Permit. Fees will vary depending upon the size of the dwelling and other factors.
Minor additions (patio cover or bathroom addition):
- The applicant submits a completed Building Permit Application and Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical Permit Application and other submittal requirements to the Planning and Fire staff at the City Hall - Permit Center;
- The sumittals are reviewed for completeness; if complete, the application will be stamped as OK to issue permit.
- Applicant submits three(3) sets of the approved Planning and Fire plans to the Building Division plan checker for final review and approval.
- After final approval, the applicant pay all fees and present the Cashier's receipt to the Permit Center counter staff for issuance of the permit.
For major additions and those with structural work, the submittal requirements are the same. The review includes:
- Staff reviews the submittal for completeness;.
- Applicant pays the required fees.
- Staff in other departments review the submittal and provide the applicant with list of corrections (punchlist) of items that are missing, incomplete or inconsistent with relevant codes;
- Applicants submits all revisions listed on the punchlist.
- After the applicant pays required fees , the permit is issued.
Inspections:
It is the permit applicant's responsibility to schedule the required building inspections. Look on the reverse side of the Building Permit for the sequence of required inspections.
Inspections requested by 4PM will be done the following day.
