Before construction may begin on a single family dwelling, a Building Permit, as well as Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical Permits, are required. A Fire Permit is also required if the dwelling is located in a high hazard area or is required to be protected by fire sprinklers.
Steps include:
- Verify with Planning and Fire Department that all requirements have been met prior to submitting the Building Permit application.
- Submit the Building Permit Application along with required drawings and plans;
- Pay fees after completeness of your submittal is verfied.
- After staff review of plans for compliance with relevant codes and requirements, the applicant gets a punchlist of required revisions.
- After the required revisions are made and verified, the applicant pays the balance of fees and other charges and is issued the permit.
Inspections: It is the permit applicant's responsibility to schedule the required building inspections. Look on the reverse side of the Building Permit for the sequence of required inspections.
