- responsible for a broad range of emergency services in Haywrd to protect life and property from fire, explosion, hazardous materials, accidents, and disasters;
- administers the Fairview Fire Protection District (FFPD) agreement, with the Hayward Fire Chief serving as the FFPD Fire Chief.
- provides firefighting, rescue response, and the Advanced Life Support (ALS) delivery system with Firefighter-Paramedics;
- conduct Fire Code compliance inspections and provides public education;
- oversees Fire Department-provided Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to patients throughout Hayward;
- enforces the Uniform Fire Code and applicable State and federal codes and standards:
- investigates the cause, origin, and circumstances of fires;
- regulates the storage and use of hazardous materials in above ground facilities and underground storage tanks; and
- works with industrial facilities to develop risk management prevention programs related to hazardous materials.
