A Hayward Fire Department annual permit is required for existing high-piled storage buildings where storage exceeds 2500 square feet in area.
The inspection will verify that the original requirements are maintained and that the storage commodity and/or arrangement or method has not changed.
Storage commodities and methods include:
- combustible material in closely packed piles more than 12 feet in height;
- combustible material on pallets, or in racks more than 12 feet in height;
- certain special hazard commodities such as rubber tires, plastics, some flammable liquids, idle pallets, etc., the critical height may be as low as 5 feet.
The purpose of the annual Fire Department permit is to assure that a fire inspection is made on a regular annual basis.
