Land uses that require a conditional use permit vary by zoning district. Check the Zoning Use Chart to determine whether a Conditional Use Permit may be necessary. A conditional use permit assures that certain property uses are permitted, are in harmony with the geographic area, and are in keeping with City policies.
The process takes about 8 to 10 weeks, not including time needed by an applicant to revise and resubmit plans and studies or for appeals.
How to Apply for a Conditional Use Permit
General Steps:
1. Speak with a Planner at the Permit Center to review regulations related to your proposed use.
2. Submit a completed application, filing fee, and other required documents.
3. Planning staff will review your submittal for completeness and refer your proposal for further review by other affected departments, agencies, and to property owners and residents in the area.
4. After review, the application is referred to the Planning Commission for a decision.
5. The Planning Commission action can be appealed to the City Council (in writing) within 10 days after the decision is made.
