The Hayward Police Department is committed to working in a problem-solving partnership with individuals, community groups, and businesses to fight crime and improve the quality of life for the people of Hayward. However, we cannot succeed on the efforts of the police alone. By educating the community on crime prevention techniques and by getting community members involved in crime prevention activities such as neighborhood watch, business watch, and Crime Free Programs, we can reduce the number of crimes in Hayward and increase the quality of life for our residents.
The Crime Prevention Unit helps residents and businesses to develop strategies and solutions to community problems and concerns in the following ways:
- Hayward Neighborhood Alert/Watch
- Business Watch
- English and Spanish Community Academies
- Business Academy
- Crime Free Multi-Housing Program
- SMASH Program
- Crime Prevention Education Presentations
- Residential and Commercial Security Surveys
- Crime Prevention Education/Resources
