Counseling is provided by the Child,Youth and Family Services Bureau of the Police Department. Marriage and Family Therapists and Interns are under the supervision of a licensed supervisor. The focus is to help strengthen the functioning of individuals and families.
Although counselors work together with Police Officers, all counseling is strictly confidential, and follows all the professional guidelines of the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, as well as the ethical standards of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
Counselors provide counseling services to children, youth, and the entire family. Typical issues include: behavior problems at home, school and in the community; parent-child conflict; and adjustment to family traumas (domestic violence, divorce or death). Youth referred by the police for law violations may be able to avoid juvenile court by participating in a diversion program.
Programs offered at no cost to Hayward residents are:
Crisis intervention
Child, youth and family counseling
Diversion for minor law violations
Trauma and critical incident assistance
