There are two basic types of parking restrictions: the time-limit parking zone, and the no-parking zone.
These zones are designated by installing signs or by painting the curb the appropriate color, i.e. red, green, yellow, or white, as mandated by the California Vehicle Code.
No parking zones are installed in situations where there is a need to improve traffic safety. Time-limit parking zones are installed to encourage parking turnover (i.e. areas where short-term parking is needed). Generally, signs are installed for zones over 100 feet, and without raised curbs. Painting is used for shorter zones where there is a raised curb.
Please note: It is unlawful for anyone to install any traffic control device in the public right-of-way without authority of the City of Hayward.
