The Hayward Youth Commission (HYC) advises the Mayor and City Council, and the elected boards of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) and Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) about issues that affect young people in the Hayward community. Members may also work on a number of projects and activities throughout the year, e.g., identifying youth needs, organizing youth speakouts and conferences, etc.
Membership: 17 Members - Two-year Term
Meeting Schedule: Monthly - 1st Monday - 7:30pm in City Hall
Qualifications: Must be between 13 and 20 years old at time of appointment; live within Hayward city limits or within boundaries of Hayward Unified School District.

Submit completed application to: City Clerk's Office 777 B Street Hayward, CA 94541 Recruitment usually takes place in April of each year. Applicants are interviewed by a committee of representatives from each of the three elected bodies, who make the final appointments.
Commissioners are eligible for reappointment to additional terms, so long as they continue to meet the qualifications for membership, and have attended most Commission meetings.
