The Human Services Commission advises the City Council about the social problems and needs of the community, coordinates community social resources, and seeks voluntary solutions to discourage and prevent any and all forms of recognized discrimination. The Human Services Commission reviews applications for the City’s social service funds and makes recommendations to the Hayward City Council.
The Commission also assigns a member liaison to each program that is funded. In addition, the Commission serves as a resident’s advisory group to the City’s Paratransit Program which provides transportation to persons who are unable to drive or access other forms of transportation due to medical or disabling conditions.
Membership:Eleven (11) members - Four-year term
Meeting Schedule: Monthly - 1st Wednesday - 7:00 pm Additional meetings January through April
Qualifications: At least 18 years old - Live within the City limits Registered voter

Interviews with the Mayor and City Council are generally held once a year in June when applicants are selected to fill vacancies.
