District offices are a physical element of the Hayward Police Department’s Community Policing and Neighborhood Policing efforts. We believe in being engaged in our neighborhoods and in providing police services that are accessible and understanding of the needs of neighborhoods. Rather than centralizing every police function from one central police facility with an expectation for the public to “bring issues to us,” we have established district offices that enable us to extend our community policing efforts and support closer to the neighborhoods we serve.
Two Neighborhood Policing Districts, one North and one South, are each headed by a District Commander who is responsible for coordinating the resources, strategies, and efforts we apply to various neighborhoods within the respective district. District Commanders and their staff work closely with neighborhoods to find ways to organize, support and guide their efforts toward vitality and self-sufficiency.
District offices are also a place for neighborhood community members to stop in for information, discuss neighborhood issues, report crime or suspicious activity, report quality of life issues or behavior that negatively affects a neighborhood.
