Vacation Check

Vacation is a time for fun and relaxation. Don't let yours be ruined by crime. Before leaving your home, follow the following tips:

  • Have good locks on the doors and windows, and USE THEM!
  • Engrave your valuables with your California driver's license number (Preceded by CA) and post "Operation ID" stickers in entry doors and windows.
  • Never leave your house key hidden outside under a doormat, in a flower pot or on the ledge of a door.
  • Make sure your house appears "Lived in." Use timers for lights and radios. Have a neighbor or friend pick up mail, packages and newspapers. Keep the lawn mowed and watered.
  • Leave trip plans and an emergency phone number with trusted neighbors or friends.

The Sheriff's Department also conducts "Vacation Checks" of resident's homes. If you are planning a vacation and wish occasional checks of your house, please submit a service request (no more than one week in advance please) with the following information:

  • Start date of vacation
  • End date of vacation
  • Location to be checked
  • Nearest cross street
  • Dogs at location?
  • Alarm System?
  • Lights on Timer?
  • Is anyone staying at the location while you are away?
  • Emergency Contact

Please input the above information in the box "Please describe your problem or question in detail" below.

Please do not use the Resident Service Center Vacation Checks for regular patrol requests or to report crimes.

Please contact the Sheriff Department at 661-255-1121 or in case of an emergency dial 911.
