Illegal Construction / No Permits

Building permits are required for most construction projects and shall apply to the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal and demolition of every building or structure or any appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings or structures.

Some exemptions are:

    ►fences under 42inches high; storage sheds, playhouses, glasshouses, pagodas, gazebos and similar

            structures, provided the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet;

    ► platforms, walks and decks not over 30 inches above grade

    ► painting, papering flooring wall hangings and similar finish work

    ► playground equipment normally does NOT require a building permit  

    ► repair of minor plumbing leaks or drains do not require a building permit. For a complete list of exemptions see Huntington Beach Municipal Code 17.02.030)
