Trash and Recycling Collection

The City of Thornton offers competitively priced weekly trash service to single family homes, including: detached, paired and certain townhomes within City limits.

The City’s recycling program is open to all City of Thornton trash customers. Recyclables are collected twice each month. One Container Recycling means customers can recycle the following items together in their green cart:

  • Newspapers and inserts
  • Plastic bottles
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum cans
  • Steel cans
  • Junk mail
  • Office paper
  • Magazines and catalogs
  • Flattened cardboard
  • Paperboard (i.e. cereal boxes)
  • Phone books
  • Brown paper bags
  • Aluminum foil and pie tins
  • Empty aerosol cans
  • Beverage cartons

Additional trash and recycling information may be obtained by visiting the Thornton website or contacting the Infrastructure Department, Environmental Services Division, at 720-977-6200, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday or by emailing environmentalsvcs@cityofthornton.net.
